Lithium Technology Corporation (LTC) and Frentzen's Hybrid Racing AG have entered into an agreement to market specialized lithium-ion batteries to power advanced vehicles for the motor sports industry.
The applications will include batteries for cars, boats and planes to be used in consumer and professional racing vehicles.

Robert Q. Riley Enterprises announced the release of construction plans for anyone who wants to build its XR3, a two-passenger, plug-in hybrid that can travel up to 225 miles per gallon.
The three-wheel sports car’s modular design can be outfitted with different power trains to create a 125-mpg, diesel-only vehicle; a 100-mile-range, battery-only vehicle; or a hybrid for increased performance and fuel versatility.

Nissan today unveiled all-electric and original hybrid electric prototype vehicles, both powered by advanced lithium-ion batteries.
Under the Nissan GT 2012 business plan, the company has committed to zero-emission vehicle leadership, and has announced plans to introduce an all-electric vehicle in 2010 and mass market globally in 2012.

Nissan has developed a new fuel cell stack with double the power density of the previous generation stack. The new fuel cell stack also achieves a 35% cost reduction mainly due to half the use of platinum, a key material used in the production of fuel cell stacks.
Test fleets incorporating the improved fuel cell stacks will be operational by the end of this year.

Valmet to Manufacture the Fisker Karma Plug-in Hybrid

Valmet Automotive has signed a letter of intent with Fisker Automotive. According to the letter of intent Valmet Automotive is to manufacture Fisker Automotive's first production car, the Fisker Karma Plug-in Hybrid, in Finland.
The target is to sign the final contract within next months. Fisker Karma is a four-door plug-in hybrid sports sedan which was introduced in January 2008. The first cars will be delivered in the 4th quarter of 2009 in North America with planned delivery to Europe in 2010.

New flywheel hybrid technology is being developed for applications in road cars by a group of leading British companies. The project, funded by the Technology Strategy Board, is being led by Jaguar Land Rover and managed by Prodrive with advanced technology from Flybrid, Torotrak, Xtrac and Ford.
Ricardo is examining alternative flywheel concepts in parallel with this project. During the two year programme, the group will develop the new technology and build a demonstrator vehicle equipped with the system.

Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), the maker of Subaru automobiles, announced the successful development of its Subaru Plug-in Stella Concept model, a prototype electric vehicle (EV). FHI will provide five units of the Plug-in Stella for use at the Hokkaido Toyako Summit to be held July 7 through 9, 2008.
Four of the five will be used to transport government officials and other participants at the summit, while one vehicle will be displayed at the Environmental Showcase, an exhibition and demonstration area in the International Media Center, and it will also be available for a test drive.

Lotus Engineering, the automotive consultancy division of Lotus has won two contracts as part of winning project consortia announced by the UK Government Technology Strategy Board.
These two project consortia will be allocated part of a total £23 million for 16 low carbon vehicle development programmes. Including investments from companies such as Lotus, these projects collectively represent a total value of £52 million.

Electric transportation pioneer ZAP announced that it has acquired an ownership interest in an electric motor company to develop and manufacture a new line of wheel motors for future vehicle developments and global distribution.
Under the agreement, ZAP is collaborating and investing in the development of a line of wheel motors for various types of electric vehicles, from an electric bike or scooter to an electric car. ZAP and its partner have also agreed to work together on the optimum process for manufacturing all motors and controllers. ZAP has been granted exclusive rights to the wheel motors under the agreement for international distribution.

Polypore International announced that through its wholly owned subsidiary, Celgard, LLC, the company has signed a definitive purchase agreement with the shareholders of Yurie-Wide Corporation, a South Korean company, to purchase 100% of the outstanding capital stock of Yurie-Wide. The purchase price will be approximately $23 million in cash. The company expects to complete the acquisition in May 2008.
