BRUSA_24h-Nuerburgring_2008_Hybrid-Apollo_015 Lithium Technology Corporation (LTC) and Frentzen's Hybrid Racing AG have entered into an agreement to market specialized lithium-ion batteries to power advanced vehicles for the motor sports industry.

The applications will include batteries for cars, boats and planes to be used in consumer and professional racing vehicles.

westfield_e-sportscar_1 Design students from universities, further education colleges and senior streams of secondary schools will be invited to enter a competition to design the body for the world’s first one-make electric vehicle race series. The competition will be launched on press day at Autosport International on the Niche Vehicle Network Stand No. 6230 at the NEC on January 10th.

The prototype rolling chassis has been developed by Midlands based Westfield Sportscars, in collaboration with Silverstone-based Delta Motorsport and Birmingham City University’s Technology Innovation Centre (TIC). The design is intended to enclose the new rolling chassis. The resulting competition car will form the basis of Westfield’s forthcoming single-make Electric Race Car series.

current_eliminator Dennis "Kilowatt" Berube set a new National Electric Drag Racing Association (NEDRA) electric vehicle world speed record driving an electric dragster powered by Altairnano battery packs, broke into the 7-second category for the quarter-mile and reaching 160.65 mph.

Using Altairnano's lithium-titanate battery packs, Berube's electric dragster, named the Current Eliminator V, achieved the electric vehicle world speed record at the Southwestern International Raceway in Tucson, AZ on Sunday, December 30th.

xtrac_gearbox_award_2007 (Source: Xtrac) - Xtrac, the UK-based engineering design and manufacturing company, specialising in vehicle transmission and driveline technology, has received the “Most Innovative New Motorsport Product of the Year Award” for its pioneering work developing a state-of-the-art gearbox for race teams competing in the World Touring Car Championship and other touring car championships.

The unique capabilities of Xtrac were singled out by an international panel of high level motorsport engineers, who selected its innovative ‘516’ transmission system from a total of 23 worldwide entries nominated for the awards, which included new products from among the world’s leading high technology suppliers to the automotive and motorsport industries.

torotrak-logo(Source: Torotrak) - Further to the announcement on 24 September 2007 by Torotrak Plc that a major Formula 1 (F1) racing team had become the Company's first customer for the mechanical KERS system, Torotrak are pleased to announce a further new licence agreement with a leading F1 team.

This second F1 team has entered into a licence agreement with Torotrak which will enable them to use Torotrak's full-toroidal traction drive technology in a mechanically based kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) from the start of the 2009 system, when F1 is introducing new rules that will lower the environmental impact of the sport.
