1. LG Chem/CPI to Supply Volt Li-Ion-Batteries?

General Motors has chosen a unit of South Korea's LG Chem to supply lithium-ion batteries for its Chevrolet Volt and is working out the terms of a supply contract expected to be announced in November, two sources briefed on the project said.

Compact Power Inc, a Detroit-area based unit of LG Chem, and a partnership between Germany's Continental AG and U.S.-based A123 Systems have been in the race to supply the electric Volt with battery packs.

2. Launch of the Lithium-ion Electric Fiat Fiorino in Italy

(Source: Newteon) Fiat new born was presented on October 4th at Transpotec in Milan: the Fiat Fiorino. For the first time in the automotive history, the electric version, developped by Micro-Vett, was launched simultaneously with the endothermic version!

Fiat Research Centre actually asked Micro-Vett to take charge of the electrification of the Fiorino range. Micro-Vett already realises the Electric Fiat Doblò, distributed by Newteon.

3. Lithium-ion Electric Doblò: 300km Driven in One Day

(Source: Newteon) A Micro-Vett Fiat Doblò, a regular size 5-seat station wagon, powered by a custom 18kWh Altairnano lithium-ion NanoSafe battery pack, traveled 300 kilometers (186 miles) in one day in an urban delivery circuit. The custom battery pack was fully recharged in less than ten minutes a total of three times using AeroViroments’ high voltage, 125kW rated, rapid charging system.

The demonstration came halfway through an ongoing 60-day demonstration of the 5-seat electric vehicle by AeroVironment; Altair Nanotechnologies; Micro-Vett, and Go Green Holding AS to government officials and potential commercial customers in Oslo, Norway.
