1. Johnson Controls-Saft Announces Second Li-Ion Hybrid Battery Production Contract

Johnson Controls-Saft will be providing lithium-ion batteries for BMW's 7 Series ActiveHybrid car, currently being showcased at the Paris motor show. The lithium-ion cells and modules will be produced at the Johnson Controls-Saft production facility in Nersac, France.

The facility, which is the world's first production facility for lithium-ion batteries for HEVs, opened in January 2008 and is scaleable as demand increases.

3. Jaguar Land Rover Will Use Flywheel Hybrid Technology in Road Cars

New flywheel hybrid technology is being developed for applications in road cars by a group of leading British companies. The project, funded by the Technology Strategy Board, is being led by Jaguar Land Rover and managed by Prodrive with advanced technology from Flybrid, Torotrak, Xtrac and Ford. 

Ricardo is examining alternative flywheel concepts in parallel with this project. During the two year programme, the group will develop the new technology and build a demonstrator vehicle equipped with the system.

4. Johnson Controls-Saft eröffnet Fabrik für Lithium-Ionen-Batterien

Johnson Controls-Saft Advanced Power Solutions gab heute die offizielle Eröffnung der neuen Fertigung für Lithium-Ionen-Autobatterien bekannt. Die Fabrik im französischen Nersac produziert Batteriesysteme für Hybrid-, Plug-In-Hybrid- und Elektroantriebe und soll weltweit die erste ihrer Art sein.

Johnson Controls-Saft investierte bisher 15 Millionen Euro in die Anlage, deren Produkte an Automobilhersteller auf der ganzen Welt geliefert werden. Die Fabrik ist so ausgelegt, dass bei steigender Nachfrage mit einer entsprechenden Ausweitung der Produktion reagiert werden kann.

5. Johnson Controls: Hannover wieder Zentrum der Autobatterie

(Quelle: ar/JC) Der amerikanische Mischkonzern und Automobilzulieferer Johnson Controls hat das alte Varta-Starterbatteriewerk in Hannover-Stöcken zum Zentrum seines europäischen Geschäfts mit Autobatterien ausgebaut. Hannover ist Sitz der neuen Holdung Johnson Controls Power Solutions Europe AG, die am 1. Oktober 2007 an die Stelle der VB Autobatterien AG trat. In Hannover wird nun über die eigene Forschung und Entwicklung hinaus die weltweite Batterieforschung des Unternehmens koordiniert. Insgesamt arbeiten im Werk Stöcken nun wieder rund 1000 Mitarbeiter.

Das Autobatteriegeschäft führte unter Johnson Controls in Umsatzhöhen, die die alte Varta Batterie AG mit allen Batteriegeschäften zusammen bis zum Verkauf 1996 nicht erreicht hatte. Rund 1,5 Mrd US-Dollar werden jetzt pro Jahr erwirtschaftet, nachdem die Zuwachsraten beim Umsatz in der vergangenen Jahren zweistellig ausfielen. Auch das Ergebnis passt. Vorstandsvorsitzender Walther Wever steuert mit dem Autobatteriegeschäft nun die Zwei-Milliarden-Marke an. Dabei kommt ihm nach eigenen Angaben die Entwicklung der Automobiltechnik entgegen: „Ohne Batterie geht’s nicht“, erklärt er mit Hinweis auf die Entwicklung der verschiedenen Systeme von Hybridantrieben in Kraftfahrzeugen.
