Erste Anwendung findet E-Flex im Chevrolet Volt Concept, welches auf der Detroit Motorshow 2007 vorgestellt wird. Es handelt sich dabei um einen 40-Meilen all-electric range (AER) Plug-in Hybrid. E-Flex verwendet eine Plug-in-fähige und Batterie-dominierende Hybrid-Architektur, "E" steht für elektrisches Fahren und "Flex" für die verschiedenen Elektrizitätsquellen (Generator oder Brennstoffzelle).
