1. Ener1 Applies for $480 Million in Federal Loan Funds to Expand Li-ion Manufacturing Capability

Lithium-ion battery manufacturer Ener1 has applied for $480 million in low-interest loans under a new federal program to spur development of the next generation of U.S. fuel-efficient vehicles. Low-Interest Funds Would Help Grow Domestic Production of Crucial Systems for Plug-In Vehicles.

EnerDel, Ener1's lithium-ion battery subsidiary, applied for the funds under the Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing Incentive Program (ATVMIP), which is administered by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The $25 billion program is designed to enable U.S. auto companies and their suppliers to build or retool manufacturing facilities in order to improve the overall corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) of the American automotive industry.

2. Ener1 Acquires Leading Korean Lithium-ion Battery Cell Producer

Ener1 announced it has agreed to acquire an 83% interest in Enertech International, one of South Korea's leading lithium-ion battery cell producers. The purchase follows the recent announcement of the company's plans to expand the manufacturing capacity of its lithium-ion automotive battery subsidiary, EnerDel, based in Indiana.

The acquisition is intended to both broaden and expand Ener1's production capabilities at a time when automakers worldwide are preparing to launch a new generation of hybrid and electric vehicles.

3. Electrovaya Receives Initial Payment for EV and Battery Production in Norway

Electrovaya announces that it has received from Miljobil Grenland an initial payment of US $1.3 million as partial consideration for a technology license enabling battery and electric car production at a new plant in Norway.

Electrovaya is partnering with Miljobil to produce batteries and electric cars in Norway and providing its Lithium Ion SuperPolymer battery technology to give Miljobil’s four-door electric vehicles excellent range and highway speed. 4. Electro Energy Awarded Contract for Development of Ultra-High Energy Density Li-Ion Chemistry

Electro Energy announced a contract award of $750,000 sponsored by Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to continue development of ultra-high energy density, rechargeable, lithium battery chemistry for Air Force applications.

5. EnerDel Delivers First Prototype Lithium-ion Battery Pack for the TH!NK City

EnerDel has delivered the first mechanical prototype of the lithium-ion battery pack for the new TH!NK City vehicle for form and fit evaluation.

The pack has been installed in a sample vehicle, which the Norwegian company delivered to EnerDel's Indianapolis facility last week.

6. Enova Received a Contract to Provide 1,000 Power Control Units to Think Global

Enova Systems has received a Production Contract to provide a minimum of 1,000 Power Control Units (PCU's) to Think Global in 2008, for use in their electric vehicle passenger car, the Think City.

Future production ambitions for the Think City are expected at a minimum of 10,000 units in 2009. Enova's PCU is a critical component of the vehicle's power system, converting and regulating high voltage power to lower voltages where and as required.

7. ExxonMobil´s Battery Separator Help Put Electric Vehicles from Electrovaya on the Road

ExxonMobil Chemical announced that its new battery film technology will be an integral part of Electrovaya’s new all electric vehicles. ExxonMobil’s battery separator films significantly enhance the power, safety and reliability of lithium-ion batteries, thereby helping speed the adoption of these smaller and lighter batteries into the next wave of lower-emission vehicles.

Electrovaya announced the launch of its Zero Emission Low Speed vehicle, Maya-300. “ExxonMobil is pleased to collaborate with Electrovaya,” said Jim Harris, senior vice president, ExxonMobil Chemical.

10. EVS-23: UQM 25 KW Generator and 150 KW Propulsion System

(Source: UQM) Colorado - UQM Technologies announced that its compact and lightweight 25 kW generator and its recently introduced 150 kW propulsion system will be showcased at EVS-23, the world´s largest symposium and exhibition for electric, hybrid electric, plug-in hybrid electric and fuel cell vehicles, on December 2nd through 5th in Anaheim California.

The 25 kW UQM liquid-cooled generator, which is a compact 186 millimeters (7.3 inches) in diameter by 200 millimeters (7.75 inches) in length, weighs a meager 22 kilograms (49 pounds) and operates at 340 volts DC with a narrow plus or minus 2 volt DC regulation tolerance at operating speeds of 4,000 to 6,500 r.p.m. The generator is designed to be gear driven from an internal combustion engine and has a maximum speed rating of 11,000 r.p.m. The generator and its advanced CAN compatible liquid-cooled control electronics will be on display in booth number 776 at the exhibition.
