ener1-logo_1Lithium-ion battery manufacturer Ener1 has applied for $480 million in low-interest loans under a new federal program to spur development of the next generation of U.S. fuel-efficient vehicles. Low-Interest Funds Would Help Grow Domestic Production of Crucial Systems for Plug-In Vehicles.

EnerDel, Ener1's lithium-ion battery subsidiary, applied for the funds under the Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing Incentive Program (ATVMIP), which is administered by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The $25 billion program is designed to enable U.S. auto companies and their suppliers to build or retool manufacturing facilities in order to improve the overall corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) of the American automotive industry.

enerdel-logoEnerDel has delivered the first mechanical prototype of the lithium-ion battery pack for the new TH!NK City vehicle for form and fit evaluation.

The pack has been installed in a sample vehicle, which the Norwegian company delivered to EnerDel's Indianapolis facility last week.

Traction_Technology-LogoEnova Systems announce that its 120kW System has been chosen to power four Optare Solo Buses, integrated by UK based, Traction Technology Plc. The Buses will incorporate Enova's 120kW Series Hybrid drive system.

This award follows extensive competitive trial evaluation by Merseytravel. This is the first time that Traction has been part of a head to head evaluation of its hybrid system and their success in this trial is seen by Enova as a critical indicator in Traction's plans for the adoption of its offering in the UK market and beyond.

modec_van (Source: Modec) - Modec is the UK-based manufacturer of an zero emission electric commercial vehicle. Capable of a 100 mile range at highway speeds with a payload of up to 2 tonnes, the vehicle is now being adopted by some of the UK’s largest fleets. Modec will make its official American debut at the 23rd Electrical Vehicle Symposium in California, December 2nd – 5th 2007.

EVS 23 is the world’s leading event for Electric Vehicle Industry and brings together researchers, manufactures, and customers. This year’s event will mark Modec’s first official appearance at the show.

uqm_drive(Source: UQM) Colorado - UQM Technologies announced that its compact and lightweight 25 kW generator and its recently introduced 150 kW propulsion system will be showcased at EVS-23, the world´s largest symposium and exhibition for electric, hybrid electric, plug-in hybrid electric and fuel cell vehicles, on December 2nd through 5th in Anaheim California.

The 25 kW UQM liquid-cooled generator, which is a compact 186 millimeters (7.3 inches) in diameter by 200 millimeters (7.75 inches) in length, weighs a meager 22 kilograms (49 pounds) and operates at 340 volts DC with a narrow plus or minus 2 volt DC regulation tolerance at operating speeds of 4,000 to 6,500 r.p.m. The generator is designed to be gear driven from an internal combustion engine and has a maximum speed rating of 11,000 r.p.m. The generator and its advanced CAN compatible liquid-cooled control electronics will be on display in booth number 776 at the exhibition.

exxonmobil-logo(Source: ExxonMobil) Houston - ExxonMobil Chemical and ExxonMobil's Japanese affiliate, Tonen Chemical, have developed new film technologies for lithium-ion batteries with the potential to improve the energy efficiency and affordability of next generation hybrid and electric vehicles.

These new film technologies are expected to significantly enhance the power, safety and reliability of lithium-ion batteries, thereby helping speed the adoption of these smaller and lighter batteries into the next wave of lower-emission vehicles.

enova-logo(Source: Enova) Torrance, CA - Enova Systems announced that it will present Ultra-Capacitor technology for Hybrid Vehicles at the world's largest Electric Vehicle Symposium, EVS 23 in Anaheim from Dec 2-5. Additionally, Enova, along with IC Corporation will display their production Hybrid School and Commercial Bus.

Various other examples of Enova's unique and proprietary technologies will also be displayed including their Power Control Unit, which is currently being delivered to Think Global for their use on all of their Electric Vehicles.

ener1-logo_1(Source: Ener1) Ft. Lauderdale, FL - Ener1 released a technical presentation to the public which will be used to facilitate investor presentations during October and November. The presentation was filed in a Form 8K with the Securities and Exchange Commission on October 29, 2007.

The presentation includes an analysis of the EnerDel battery chemistry compared to competing chemistries, the engineering team's experience and capabilities in systems integration, and initial test results for cycle life and rate capability for batteries designed for electric vehicles and plug-in electric vehicles.

exide-logo(Source: Exide/Ballard) Georgia / Canada - Exide Technologies announced it has signed an agreement with Ballard Power Systems to develop an on-board hybrid hydrogen fuel cell and lead-acid battery energy system for the forklift truck (or materials handling) market. Exide plans to meet all its hydrogen fuel cell needs in the forklift truck market over the next five years exclusively with Ballard fuel cells.

Ballard is recognized as a world leader in the development, manufacture and sale of zero-emission hydrogen fuel cells. Ballard’s work in the materials handling market has, to this point, been based on using the company’s Mark9 SSL™ fuel cell stack as an alternative to lead-acid batteries.
